Hearing Aids

Bristol Hearing Aids LLC is a fully independent hearing aid practice. We aren’t owned by any hearing aid manufacturer. Instead, we get to decide for ourselves what would be the best way to care for each patient. And that’s important because no two hearing aid patients are the same and no two hearing losses are the same. By choosing from an unlimited selection of hearing aid styles and manufacturers, we’re able to find the hearing aids that would best fit you.

Choosing The Right Hearing Aid

After we evaluate your hearing and understand your hearing loss, we will sit down with you to talk about your options. We need you to be open and honest with us during this conversation so that we have all the information we need to make good suggestions. We’ll consider:

Your hearing loss: Every individual’s hearing loss is unique. After we give you a thorough hearing evaluation, we’ll know more about your hearing loss and what you need out of a hearing aid. More severe hearing loss will mean a different selection of hearing aid styles than if you have a mild hearing loss.

Your lifestyle: How do you spend most of your time? What listening environments are you usually in? Do you like to go to restaurants or parties with lots of background noise, or do you tend to stay at home? These will all factor into what hearing aid will suit you.

Your preferences: Do you strongly prefer the look of hearing aids that go behind your ears or inside them? Which do you feel is more comfortable? If you’re not sure, we can let you try hearing aids on.

Your budget: Hearing aids are available at almost any price point. We’ll need to know what your expected budget is so we can make appropriate recommendations.

We offer hearing aids from Oticon, Resound, Rexton, Signia, Sonic, Starkey, Unitron, Widex and Phonak.

Hearing Aid Styles

Modern hearing aids come in a number of sizes and shapes to suit your personal preference and what you need out of a hearing aid. We can show you what these different styles are like and let you know which ones would be a good fit for you.

The styles of hearing aids we offer include invisible-in-the-canal (IIC), completely-in-canal (CIC), in-the-canal (ITC), in-the-ear (ITE), receiver-in-canal (RIC), and behind-the-ear (BTE). Many of our patients choose the receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids because they’re comfortable and people feel that they hear much better with RIC hearing aids. However, if you prefer custom-fit hearing aids, we have the expertise to fit you with custom models to your liking.

Hearing Aid Cost

You might think that smaller hearing aids are more expensive, but that’s not true. Actually, the price of hearing aids is consistent no matter which hearing aid style you choose. The price depends on level of technology — how much do you need your hearing aids to be able to do? All modern digital hearing aids are powerful and have some degree of background noise canceling, but more sophisticated (and more expensive) technology can work in the most challenging situations.

Low technology: Best for one-on-one conversations, relatively quiet environments, or for people who only need a little help.

Medium technology: A good compromise between power and cost, able to handle average noisy environments such as restaurants or theaters.

High technology: Top-of-the-line with significant processing power for clarity and effectiveness even in complex, noisy environments.

We work very hard to find an affordable solution for all of our patients. Our priority is helping people hear better, and that’s going to be our number one focus when we make a recommendation. If you let us know your budget, we’ll work with you to find an affordable hearing solution.
